I was recently invited to a house party at the home of one of the members of The Wild Man Of Europe, to interview and enjoy a show by Norwegian folk trio I See Rivers as well as taking in some music by TWMoE and Paul Carbuncle. It was a fantastic night that couldn't even be spoiled by having worked three jobs earlier in the day with a 3am start! The band formed under unlikely circumstances, as although they are all Norwegian, they were from completely different parts of the country and came together in Liverpool where they had all decided to study popular music.
The lively party atmosphere was a lot of fun, but once the music started, the whole audience was captivated by the performance of these three girls. Their beautiful 3 part vocal harmonies really set them apart from a lot of other up and coming artists. They're also heading out on tour over the coming weeks (thru March/April 16) supporting Newton Faulkner on his UK tour!
Proc-Cast Live Videos:
And now for something completely different... That's right, the long promised 'video episode' has finally arrived. If you want to, you can still listen in the normal way using the SoundCloud link above, however the video below contains a full 25 minutes and change of the rather excellent Kelly Oliver.
Kelly is a folk singer/songwriter hailing from Stevenage in Hertfordshire. She's recently finished working on her second album 'Bedlam' for release on Folkstock records, a label that is doing great things with a number of young female artists and producers. I first saw her upon recommendation at a BBC Introducing/YNOT Fest Faction event at Rough Trade in Nottingham. Her music was folky and catchy in the right measures with a beautifully pure voice crafting some very pleasing melodies. I managed to catch up with Kelly after the show and arrange to meet with her again at The Musician in Leicester to record an interview and some live tracks.
The Proc-Cast Video Episode:
As you can hear, Kelly is a great talent. I look forward to watching her career flourish in the future. Special thanks go to Kelly, her manager Helen, Malc and Andy at The Musician in Leicester, Laura Blackie and Rich Lyman for all of their help making this episode a reality.
