I met Michael through Jason Loftus of new Nottingham internet radio station NGDigital. He's got a keen ear for a tune and is a big fan of British rock musicians like Oasis and Paul Weller. These influences shine through in his songwriting and arrangements. He recently released his debut EP 'You Find Out On Your Own', a collection of three original songs which were all self-written. The arrangements incorporate full rock band instrumentation, most of these instruments were played by Michael with the exception of the drums.
He may well be on the lookout soon for band members to take his show on the road, so interested musicians should watch this space!
We're off over to Continental Europe for this episode. More specifically to Denmark to talk to Maja Shining of Danish melodic hard rock band 'Forever Still'. Having grown up listening to heavier rock and metal music, this was something of a step back into my comfort zone, to an area of music I have far more in depth knowledge of than say folk music for example. With really well crafted songs and excellent production values I feel that Forever Still have a really great sound that could launch them into a successful career within the rock scene. Their music is heavy enough to appease the rock crowd but has enough catchy melodic content to make the transition into the mainstream like bands like Evanescence if they get the chance.
This episode features Maja singing 'The Last Day' accompanied only by a piano, if you want to hear the full band version of this song, check out the video below!
The Wild Man Of Europe are an English Folk band from Nottingham, I met half of the band on a night out in Nottingham for Halloween. All dressed up in full horror movie style attire. Thankfully they looked somewhat more normal when they visited Proc-Cast HQ to record their session. They came armed with a load of instruments, most notably a hand saw which was played by Rosey using a violin bow! You can hear that during the show in their performance of 'Reincarnate'.
Earlier this year they released the album 'Gave Up The Ghost' which is an eclectic mix of Folk and Rock influences, resulting in an album full of poetic songs which really grab your interest. It's particularly refreshing to hear someone singing in a voice that resembles their natural accent.
