The Kneads are a punk rock band from Greensboro, North Carolina in the USA. They play a brand of raucous guitar driven loudness that needs turning up to 11. I'd had them in mind for an episode for a while, and after one false start we were good to go!
I first met Joel, Michael and Joe at The Garage in Winston-Salem, North Carolina this summer when I was running the Radio Camp kids summer program for 88.5WFDD. It was the final week, everything beforehand had been to do with producing stories of local interest, about people with interesting lives. This week was different, it was all about being loud and proud. Teaching the kids how to run a live music show at a real music venue. With the help of the rest of the Radio Camp team, Lopa Shah, Quique Rodriguez-Pastor and Iggy Livengood, as well as Tucker Tharpe, the owner of The Garage and the live engineer Brian Doub. It was an amazing success and a great time was had by all. The kids got to run the sound and interview the band, they asked some great questions. I hope I've managed to do as well as the kids did, with this episode!
