Like my guest this week, I've always appreciated the talents of the new breed of solo acoustic guitar players from afar. The talent they show to take alternate tunings, capos, different percussive techniques and basically anything else they can think of to form the most complex and creative compositions possible. The only difference between he and I, is that around eight years ago, he took that inspiration and decided he was going to play that way too. Learning and writing as he went, all he has learnt so far has come together to form 'Some Forgotten Color', a great EP of acoustic guitar music that showcases not only playing ability but also an ear for a well formed piece of music.
Spencer Elliott hails from Charleston, West Virginia. He grew up in West Virginia, starting by playing the piano and then moving on later to the guitar. His piano playing was influenced by the likes of George Winston, with his early guitar playing being more influenced by alternative rock and punk. Using the skills he has acquired as a guitarist and a desire to compose music that first manifested itself when playing the piano, Spencer has created a sound that is very much his own.
